It sent hearts fluttering and caused many a palpitation in living rooms across the nation last March, so it’s little wonder, then, that Aidan Turner’s topless Poldark scything has been voted THE TV moment of the past year at the National Television Awards.
Turner fought off stiff competition from BGT’s hypnodog Princess putting Simon Cowell into a trance, the shocking betrayal of Game Of Thrones’ Jon Snow, and the live reveal of Lucy Beale’s killer on EastEnders.
The actor reaped the rewards for his efforts scooping the Impact Award at the ceremony, now in its 21st year, at London’s O2 Arena.
“I didn’t even know what this was, I was sitting there and my face just came up on screen”, Turner told RadioTimes.com backstage, beaming with joy about his win.
Poldark lost out on Best New Drama to Doctor Foster, but that didn’t dampen Turner’s spirits, and he was hopeful that Poldark would have the chance to scoop victory in years to come if the drama continues to dominate Sunday nights.
“We need to keep the standard high”, he said. “If the standard stays the way it is, we keep doing it. If the standard drops, we’re off.”
It sounds as though Turner’s top won’t be off as much next series though: “I think we’re finished all the slightly naked scenes” he laughed, as he dismissed the notion of being treated like a piece of meat. “Not at all”, he replied, when asked if he felt like he was being objectified.
With the scything and that infamous towel scene in And Then There Were None under his belt, how does Turner plan to top his “topless” moments in 2016?
You’ll have to come back to RadioTimes.com soon to find out…
