X Factor announcer reveals he is practising Cheryl’s new surname

Returning judge Cheryl will take to the panel as Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, and announcer Peter Dickson admits he's been working on it "unsuccessfully"

Cheryl Cole won’t be on this year’s X Factor judging panel after all – because she’ll be using her new married surname Fernandez-Versini.

How do we know? Well, announcer Peter Dickson has been busy trying to get his head around the new name.

“I had a phone call a few weeks ago from the producers to tell me who the new judges were,” Dickson tells Capital Radio.

“They said, It’s Cheryl’, and I said, ‘Oh that’s fine, she’s back’, and they said, ‘No but she’s changed her name, she’s married Jean-Bernard and she wants to be known by his second name, so can you start practising?’

“So I have been… not very successfully!”

Well, it won’t matter if he gets it a bit wrong, will it? It’s not like millions tune in or anything…

Cheryl announced her surprise secret wedding to her French beau via Instagram on Monday 14th July. She has since had a celebratory bash in the UK, with fellow X Factor judge Simon Cowell tweeting that he couldn’t believe his “li’l buddy” had married.

Auditions are currently under way for this year’s series, with the panel seeing hopefuls in the intimate judges’ room, before moving onto the arena stage. Cheryl will sit alongside fellow returning judges Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh as well as new judge Mel B.
