Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

What happens if a white supremacist decides to turn their life around? Should we accept their change of heart? Or are they beyond forgiveness? These are the type of questions that you'll be asking during Skin, a gritty, well-acted drama based on real events. At the start of the film, Bryon "Babs" Widner (Jamie Bell) is a thuggish, hate-filled skinhead whose face and body are covered in racist tattoos. He is a key member of a white power movement, but after meeting Julie (Patti Cake$ star Danielle Macdonald) and her three young daughters, he begins to question his beliefs. Crucially, Bryon is a relatively sympathetic character, thanks to a fierce, convincing performance from Bell. The film is slightly longer than it needs to be, but it offers an authentic, thought-provoking story about redemption and forgiveness.
