EastEnders actor Scott Maslen has publicly thanked new executive consultant John Yorke for improving the quality of the show.
Yorke rejoined EastEnders following the departure of executive producer Sean O’Connor earlier this year. Recent episodes – helmed by Yorke – put the Brannings centre stage following the exposure of Max’s betrayal and won widespread critical acclaim.
Taking to Twitter, Maslen – who plays Jack Branning on the BBC1 soap – posted two tweets, the second correcting a typo in the first:
The past year has proven to be a controversial one for EastEnders thanks to Maslen’s screen wife Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) being killed off alongside her sister Roxy (Rita Simons). Fans have also been divided about the merits of recasting Michelle Fowler (Jenna Russell).
Now, though, Yorke has assured Radio Times that viewers can expect high drama this festive season, as tensions within the Branning family reach a crescendo:
“The really big story on Christmas Day, and one of the biggest stories we have ever told on EastEnders, will revolve around Max and how his past actions all come back to haunt him in the most powerful and appalling way.
“The Branning family and their wider clan will be at the heart of the drama, as all of those involved in the plot to buy up and build over Albert Square get their spectacular comeuppance.
“The story kicks off at the end of November and rapidly builds to a Christmas climax – with the events on Christmas Day laying down the shape of Albert Square for years to come.”
