Jessie Wallace has revealed that EastEnders spin-off Kat & Alfie: Redwater won’t be recommissioned.
The Ireland-set drama, which was broadcast on BBC1 earlier this year, saw former Walford favourite Kat (Jessie Wallace) journey to the coastal town of Redwater with husband Alfie (Shane Richie) to find her long-lost son.
But viewers were left with unresolved questions at the end of the final episode, with both Kat and Alfie’s lives hanging in the balance.
Asked on this morning’s Lorraine as to whether the would be any more Redwater, Wallace said: “I don’t think there will be another series.”
But the actress – currently touring in a production of Ira Levin’s comedy-thriller Deathtrap – couldn’t shed any light on the fate of the Moons. Asked about what happened to the characters, Wallace replied: “I have no idea.”
Rumours had been rife recently that Kat and Alfie would be returning to EastEnders following the appointment of John Yorke as Creative Director.
Commenting on the rumours last month on Good Morning Britain, Wallace said: “Never say never – that’s the standard answer.”
Speaking today about whether she missed EastEnders, Wallace admitted: “I do miss Kat and my friends there.”
