Might the Murrays face a future behind bars? EastEnders fans have been left wondering whether Ted and Joyce – who only made their debut on the soap back in May – will now be sent to prison after both were arrested by police.

Joyce’s efforts to take the blame for the shooting of Johnny Carter now appear to have backfired, with investigating officers having put both her and husband Ted in the frame.

Scenes just shown saw the Murrays told that forensics linked Ted and not Joyce to the crime, all of which led to his arrest on suspicion of possessing a firearm and using it to cause grievous bodily harm. For her part, Joyce was taken in for perverting the course of justice.

The cliffhanger moment came after it was revealed that Ted has been suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder following an incident in Suez decades previously that saw him fail to act when a group of friends were killed.

During a heart to heart with Mick upstairs at the Queen Vic, Ted was advised to seek professional help before it was too late. Though it remains to be seen whether he’ll get the opportunity, now that he and Joyce have been taken away for questioning. Find out what’s next for the Murrays when EastEnders returns at 8.00pm on Monday.
