EastEnders star Ted Reilly on Danny-Boy Hatchard’s exit – and a big new storyline for the Carters

There's major drama coming for Johnny and his family

EastEnders actor Ted Reilly has told RadioTimes.com that he’s saddened to see co-star Danny-Boy Hatchard leave the BBC1 soap.

“It’s sad for me personally because I love Danny-Boy. He’s still around at the moment but he hasn’t told me how he’s leaving,” Reilly said on the red carpet at the Inside Soap Awards. “He’s teased his exit a little bit, but I think he wants it to feel real when we film it.”

Reilly also said that he’s been enjoying the creative attempts used to conceal Kellie Bright’s pregnancy bump from viewers. “It’s a fun little game to guess how they’re going to hide the bump. Will it be a laundry basket, a cushion or a handbag?”

Reilly has been on screen as Johnny Carter since April and commented that he now feels fully settled in. “I’m part of the furniture. The rest of the Carters created that family atmosphere for me straight away. It’s a welcoming cast and you’re instantly thrown into it.”

As for what lies ahead, the actor added: “I am staying. I have unfinished business on the show. And there are lots of exciting things happening for the Carters – the next year is going to be big.”
