EastEnders’ Steve McFadden says Phil, Grant and Peggy’s Mitchell family reunion will be bittersweet
The actor shared his thoughts on Ross Kemp and Barbara Windsor's return to Walford as EastEnders scooped Best Serial Drama at the National Television Awards

The Mitchell “faaaaaaamily” may be getting back together on screen in 2016 but Steve McFadden says his reunion with Barbara Windsor and Ross Kemp is going to be sad.
The actor – who knew about their return but managed to keep it a secret from the rest of the cast – told RadioTimes.com that while he’s looking forward to working with the pair again, it’s sad that it has to mark the end of a Walford era.
Scenes to be broadcast later this year will see Phil, Peggy and Grant coming back together as the Mitchell matriarch battles with – and ultimately succumbs to – cancer.
“It’s a shame she’s going to go”, said McFadden of Windsor’s scheduled departure.
Cast mate Kellie Bright can’t wait to see the trio back on screen together, though. “Can I just say, as a punter, this week when that news was announced I literally did a little jump up and down”, she gushed.
“I can’t wait for that scene when there’s you, Grant, Kathy, Sharon. Oh, I can’t wait.”
Neither can we, Kellie. Neither can we.
