Benedict Cumberbatch is at the top of the fantasy cast list for EastEnders executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins – and the Oscar-nominated actor has said he’d be willing to make an appearance.
“I want Benedict Cumberbatch to come and do a turn,” Treadwell-Collins revealed at the Radio Times Festival today when asked about his dream casting. “He says he’ll come and do it, but he’s slightly busy.”
“But he would be my dream.”
Treadwell-Collins explained that he went to school with the Sherlock star (the latter was in the year above) and it was his own mother who pointed out Cumberbatch’s potential.
“We were doing a performance – my first play at school – As You Like It. He was Rosalind, I was Audrey the Country Wench. I ran up to my mum and said, ‘Mum, mum, mum, was that any good?’ and she said: ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, you were fine. That’s an actor [alluding to Cumberbatch]. He’s going to be the next Olivier.'”
Natalie Cassidy, who plays Sonia on the soap, also joined today’s panel and said Treadwell-Collins tends to get his own way when it comes to his wish list, listing Bonnie Langford as a recent success. So perhaps it won’t be too long before we hear something along the lines of “‘Ello Dad…'” from Mr Cumberbatch.
