Emmerdale boss Kate Oates has revealed that Emma Barton will be bearing a grudge when she arrives in the village early next year.
When asked whether the Barton boys’ estranged mum would seek revenge for the affair that Moira had with James, Oates replied: “Wouldn’t you? I think she will want revenge on Moira. Her feelings are really complicated because her love for James was absolutely real. So she swings like a pendulum between anger and her memories of what they once had.”
The casting of Emma was announced earlier this week, with former Brookside star Gillian Kearney set to play the mother of Finn, Ross and Pete. And it appears that both Moira and Adam – the child that Moira had with James – could be targeted once she appears on screen.
“Moira is definitely the scarlet woman and Adam is the embodiment of that, so he might find himself in the firing line too. Emmerdale is quite dense and everyone is related to each other, so she’s potentially got a grudge against everybody!” added Oates.
Gillian Kearney said recently of her signing to the ITV soap: “As an avid fan of Emmerdale, I’m delighted to be playing Emma Barton. She’s a fascinating and complex character and I’m excited to find out what lies ahead for her.
“The team have all made me feel really welcome and I’m loving being part of such a brilliant show.”
