Actress Verity Rushworth has revealed that Donna Windsor-Dingle will be accompanied by a daughter when she returns next week…and that the girl’s father is Marlon!
“It turns out that she was pregnant when she left,” says the actress, who was last seen on Emmerdale in 2009. “So she now has a four-and-a-half-year-old daughter by Marlon. Donna’s little girl April has been asking questions about who her daddy is. So Donna realises that she has to go home and put things right. She needs to face the music because she’s been burying her head in the sand for too long.”
In scenes to be shown on Thursday 20 March, Marlon will be seen saving April from being run over, little suspecting that he is in fact the girl’s father. But those expecting Marlon to be overjoyed by the news will be in for a surprise, as Mark Charnock explains:
“He just erupts,” says the actor. “Fatherhood is important to Marlon and he’s good at being a dad. It defines him, really. So when Donna turns up and he finds out that she’s robbed him of four and a half years with his child, he goes berserk. He doesn’t deal with it well. He goes into complete denial because he can’t deal with it. He doesn’t come out of it well, but it’s true to how I feel Marlon would react in that situation.”
On the topic of Donna’s return to the ITV soap, Ruthworth promises that there’ll be plenty of ructions on the horizon, but that viewers shouldn’t get too used to having her character on their screens again: “I’m back for five months. The storyline was too good to turn down and there are lots of twists and turns. I’m not going to give away the ending, but there’s plenty of high drama. But I think I’m definitely just going to be here for the five months.”
