Danny Dyer has revealed that he’ll be channelling the late Mike Reid when he takes over at the Queen Vic this Christmas as new owner Mick Carter.
When asked to pick his favourite ever landlord at the Walford boozer, Dyer answered: “Frank Butcher, all day long. I loved everything about him; I loved the fact that he was a real east Londoner. He was a great actor, he was so funny and he just had a real great presence about him.
“You believed in him being behind the bar. He had that warmth – so he was the one for me. I should say Den, but it was always a bit of Frank really.”
Speaking at an event to launch the BBC1’s festive episodes, the 36-year-old star of such movies as The Football Factory and Vendetta added: “I’ve got a bit of the Butcher about me – I’m trying to bring a bit of Frank back!”
Frank Butcher worked as landlord between 1988 and 1990 and again between 1999 and 2001, one of his most iconic moments being this classic scene in which his love for Pat (Pam St Clement) was revealed by Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor).
