Last week’s dramatic X Factor show culminated in the shock sing-off between Nicole Scherzinger’s act Hannah Barrett and Gary Barlow’s final group Rough Copy, with Hannah just missing out on a place in the final five.
This week, in another shake-up, viewers have been given the chance to vote on which second song the acts would sing.
With two performances apiece, can Gary Barlow’s remaining group Rough Copy sing their way into another week? And will Luke Friend and Nicholas McDonald keep Louis Walsh ahead of the pack with two acts in the last four? Sharon Osbourne has high hopes for her act Sam Bailey making into that final and Nicole Scherzinger will be backing her girl Tamera Foster until the very end.
Here’s what the judges could make of this week’s performances…
In what is possibly the best choice of song Luke has made to date, he will be taking on Mumford & Sons I Will Wait. If this doesn’t tickle the judges’ pink I don’t know what will. The public has also voted for Luke to sing Bon Iver’s Skinny Love. He’s bound to get his guitar out. Another great match. I think Sharon Osbourne will urge the viewing public to vote for Luke, while Gary will congratulate Luke for identifying, and sticking with, his own style.
Gary’s last group in the competition made it into the top five after Sharon and Louis both voted to save them in last week’s sing-off.
The trio appear to be having an R Kelly moment after the public opted for I Believe I Can Fly and the band themselves chose a mash-up between Kelly’s She’s Got That Vibe and Bobby Brown’s Every Little Step.
I think Nicole Scherzinger will adore the remix but the vocals might not hold for the other song. Then again, Nicole was pretty mad they joined her Hannah in the bottom two last week so she could just back them all the way.
If Tamera forgets any of the lyrics this week Louis Walsh will probably have actual steam coming out of his ears. I hope this is the week she turns it around and Louis can get all excited about her being a potential world star again.
Tamera has been given The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by the public. A slow one, so definitely no room for lyric slips. Plus, Tamera will perform Rihanna’s We Found Love – a perfect fit for the last of Nicole’s girls.
The judges aren’t going to be able to handle this. Two Sam Bailey performances in one night? She’ll have the roof off with Whitney Houston’s How Will I Know and if no-one cries (Nicole, I’m looking at you) when she sings Emeli Sande’s Clown then the X Factor isn’t the X Factor I know.
A hot favourite, Nicholas is taking on Take That’s Greatest Day. Possibly not the best way to show Gary he has his own style? But with the viewers voting for a cover of Bruno Mars’s Just The Way You Are, it could have just enough ‘oomph’ to turn that around.
The X Factor continues this Saturday and Sunday at 8:00pm on ITV
