The move comes as injured pro Natalie Lowe confirms she will need at least six to eight weeks to recover after fracturing two bones in her left foot during training.

Aliona had made no secret of her disappointment at being removed from the professional list earlier this year, revealing on Twitter that it definitely was not her decision to leave Strictly.

And while Natalie could return for some of the larger professional dances towards the end of the series, it seems Aliona will now get to dance with her celebrity for the entire run, and will also partner fellow professional Brendan Cole in Natalie’s absence.

Meanwhile, Natalie has spoken out about her upset at being forced to leave the show, saying she’s finding it hard to “comprehend it all”, and that she intends to be back on the show “ASAP to take part in pro numbers, Christmas specials, IT Takes Two and much more.”

Strictly Come Dancing starts this Saturday at 6:50pm on BBC1
