Countdown’s Rachel Riley joins Strictly Come Dancing

Channel 4's resident maths whizz is the latest contestant to be confirmed for the BBC1 dance contest

Countdown’s Rachel Riley has become the third contestant to be confirmed for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing. The 27-year-old star of Channel 4’s afternoon quiz show, who also co-hosts the Gadget Show on Channel 5, will be one of fifteen celebs taking part in the eleventh series when it launches next month.

Riley will join Vanessa Feltz who announced her participation while standing in for Chris Evans on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show and golfer Tony Jacklin who was unveiled on last night’s The One Show by Strictly host Bruce Forsyth.

Rachel first took over as Countdown’s resident mathematician back in 2009 when she replaced Carol Vorderman. She has now recorded over 1,000 episodes and currently appears alongside host Nick Hewer as well as Jimmy Carr in comedy spin-off 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

The BBC publicity machine has gone into overdrive over the last few days, with another contestant expected to be revealed over the weekend. Riley used her talent for letters to reveal her involvement in a nifty teaser making use of her Countdown props to unscramble a special conundrum. She also appears to have embraced the Strictly sparkles, donning a shimmering gold dress that will no doubt excite her legion of male fans. Watch the video below…
