There’s high drama next week away from Albert Square as Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) and Joey (David Witts) take a joyride in Derek’s (Jamie Foreman) car, which swerves out of control and crashes through a shop window.
Filming took place over a fortnight back in September in Keynsham, Somerset, at an empty shopping arcade that had been vacated prior to demolition and a £34m town redevelopment. As can be seen from the images, body doubles were needed for the main actors involved due to the explosive nature of some of the set-piece scenes.
In the storyline, Joey and Lauren will end up trapped inside the store, desperately trying to escape, while Derek aids them in their efforts from outside on the street. Ahead of the accident, the two cousins will be seen attempting to keep their relationship hidden from family members, only for Derek to discover their secret.
This is the second time that Lauren Branning has been involved in a road-traffic accident. Back when the character was played by Madeline Duggan, Lauren hospitalised her father Max following a hit-and-run.
