Lucy Spraggan has left The X Factor 2012, it was confirmed today.
The 20-year old singer, who was one of the favourites for the talent show title, said she was “gutted” to be leaving, but after two weeks of illness conceded she was still “not well enough to perform”.
Spraggan missed last week’s live shows with illness, but said “to accept another free pass… would not be fair on the others in the competition.”
She added: “I would like to express my thanks to everyone who has supported me. There is no way that this setback will prevent me from fulfilling my ambition,
You’ll be hearing from me again very soon.”
Spraggan shot to fame after performing her self-penned comedy song Last Night (Beer Fear) during the audition stages of the show, establishing her as a favourite to win the 2012 competition.
Her mentor, Tulisa, said of her departure:”I’m so sorry to lose Lucy from the competition, I have had a brilliant time working with her.
“I hope I can continue to mentor her in the future.
“I now count her as a friend as she is an amazing girl.”
X Factor producers praised Spraggan as a “fantastic contestant” but confirmed she would not be replaced. Eliminations will continue as usual this Sunday.
