Our Score
Despite borrowing from producer Michael Bay's ethos that bloated and overworked is better, director Jonathan Liebesman's "Turtle Recall" origin story is an entertaining smooth ride. A frustrated TV news reporter (Megan Fox) discovers the existence of the four half-shelled heroes, realises her connection via her late researcher father's experiments and also that his shady ex-partner (William Fichtner) has joined forces with the Shredder's Foot Clan to launch a chemical attack on New York. The movie strikes a fluid balance between pop-culture banter, cartoon fisticuffs and family friendliness, and the grit of the source material peeps through in the hi-octane combat suffused with a savvy synthesis of martial-arts conventions and thrilling action sequences - Shredder's spectacular samurai-robot battle and the wild truck chase through snowy mountains are highlights. The motion-capture process facilitating the awesome foursome's integration into the live action is flawless, offsetting the more uneven blockbuster-skewed moments.

A reporter discovers four humanoid amphibians who live in the sewers of New York, and use their martial arts skills to fight crime. She helps them as they face their toughest challenge yet - defeating a sinister criminal organisation that seems to have power over the entire city. Fantasy adventure, starring Megan Fox and William Fichtner, with the voice of Johnny Knoxville.
