Matt Smith says he’s not in Star Wars Episode IX

But is the Doctor Who star simply covering up his role?

Heard a rumour Doctor Who’s Matt Smith will be appearing in Star Wars Episode IX? It’s a trap!

Turns out that the former Doctor and star of The Crown won’t be materialising in a galaxy far far away, contrary to reports last year. Well, at least that’s what Smith is saying.

“As far as I can tell, I’m definitely not,” he said about featuring in the Star Wars films in an interview with LA Times, breaking the hearts of sci-fi fans everywhere.

But however disappointing this is, it’s always likely that Smith could be forced to keep his role in the film a complete secret. After all, you might recall a major lesson he gave in Doctor Who: Rule 1: The Doctor lies.

Remember, it was initially said he had “a key role” in the film – perhaps a pivotal part that needs to be kept completely hush hush. Or perhaps Smith was only playing a minor role – one he knows has been cut from the final film.

And then there are comments from Richard E Grant, who definitely is appearing in Episode IX. When RadioTimes.com asked the Oscar-nominated actor if he shared any scenes with Smith, he simply responded: “I would be fired if I told you anything about that.”

Did Grant not want to crush false rumours about Smith? Or will we soon be watching the two Doctor Who stars reunite in Star Wars Episode IX? At this point, impossible to see, the future is.
