Marvel/Netflix original superhero series Daredevil has already released a trailer, but now we’re getting a look at the villain the blind adventurer will be expending his efforts against – and he’s pretty scary-looking.

Law and Order: Criminal Intent’s Vincent D’Onofrio plays The Kingpin, a deadly organized crime leader who apparently enjoys headbutting people to death and looming a lot, sometimes both at the same time.

But he’s reckoned without Charlie Cox’s parkour-ing Daredevil (aka lawyer Matt Murdock, above), who can take out his thugs even without the powers of Iron Man and Thor. In fact, while Daredevil is a more street-level character than Chris Hemsworth’s or Robert Downey Jr’s heroes, the trailer takes pains to reference the Avengers to keep it clear he exists in the same world as them – so that’s fun! Dare we hope for cameos?

Other characters we get a better look at in the new footage include Stick (Scott Glenn, above), an old blind man who trains Murdock in martial arts, love interest Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Murdock’s law partner Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), with Sin City’s Rosario Dawson appearing as a nurse who aids Murdock.

We also get a sense of the backstory for Daredevil, with one shot (above) appearing to show the chemical spill that blinded him whilst also giving him his enhanced senses, and another (below) previewing the back of his boxer father “Battlin’” Jack Murdock – whose murder later inspires the young New Yorker to seek revenge.

Of course, he’s not the only one out for blood, with crusading reporter Ben Urich (Vondie Curtis-Hall) mapping out crime operations. And at the top…

It’s a King and a pin – geddit? We’re going to go ahead and assume the pun is intentional, anyway – clearly, Daredevil’s wordplay will be almost as nimble as its lead character.
