Benedict's (Luke Thompson) wild proposition to Sophie (Yerin Ha) at the end of the first part of Bridgerton's fourth season left the characters – and audiences – reeling.

Part 2 picks up where the first half left off, with Sophie still processing the proposal.

As well as exploring what's next for Benedict and Sophie, the second half sees Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela (Masali Baduza) continue to explore their tricky dynamic, which Dodd previously described as "confronting".

Chatting exclusively to Radio Times, Dodd said of what is to be expected in part 2: "It’s quite a confronting feeling for Francesca and a new feeling, a challenging one. I just think there’s an exploration of those feelings."

As we saw in the first half of Bridgerton season 4, Benedict was on a mission to find the Lady in Silver who he had met at his mother's masquerade ball. It turned out that Sophie had taken the night off of being an overlooked maid for her stepmother Lady Araminta and with the help of her pals, enjoyed one night of freedom. What she couldn't of banked on was meeting Benedict and the pair sharing quite the connection. So much so, that Benedict was intent on tracking her down with nothing more than the memory of her lips and her voice to go off on.

Eloise was enlisted to help, with Benedict chatting to plenty of women to figure out if they were the one he was looking for. During his search, he crossed paths with Sophie, who had been found out by Lady Araminta and kicked out, with nowhere to live or work. During a storm, Benedict and Sophie took cover at one of the Bridgerton houses in the countryside, enjoying days together and clearly growing closer but Benedict was none the wiser that Sophie was actually the woman he was looking for.

While Sophie of course knew the truth, she toyed with the prospect of telling him and talked herself out of it. In a turn of events and feeling indebted to Sophie for saving his life, Benedict asked Sophie to work at the Bridgerton household for his mother and with nowhere else to go, she took the opportunity but did hesitate at first.

Things culminated in the fourth episode when Lady Violet managed to get her children out of the house for a night alone with Marcus, leading them to all go to Francesca and Lord Stirling's home for dinner. However, they were interrupted by a surprise visit from Michaela, with it clear that things have transpired between Francesca and Michaela since the last time we've seen them together, judging from Francesca's shocked response.

The biggest twists were in the final moments though when Benedict and Sophie finally shared a passionate kiss but Benedict ruined the moment and asked Sophie to be his mistress, rather than actually wanting a relationship with her. That wasn't the only shocker though as Lady Araminta, her daughters and Mrs Varley have now moved into the home next door to the Bridgerton household, meaning they're within walking distance to Sophie.

So we'd expect all of that and more to be dug into in part 2 as tensions likely simmer between Sophie and Benedict, Lady Araminta continues to put her stamp on the Ton and we possibly find out what has occurred in Scotland with Francesca and Michaela.

Showrunner Jess Brownell has hinted at what fans can expect when season 4 resumes, telling Deadline: "In part 1, we’re very much in a fantasy world. Part 2, we’re playing a lot more with the dynamic of workplace romance and Sophie being the maid at Bridgerton house under Benedict Bridgerton, who is filling in for Anthony in many ways, as the London version of the Viscount.

"There’s a lot of tension there, and stakes rise really quickly. But I will also say that there is nothing like a taboo to make two people want each other even more. As much as I’m describing stakes and conflict, there’s also some really, really sexy moments in part 2."
