Sherlock’s Louise Brealey to star with Vic Reeves in Inspector George Gently

The pair will play a murder suspect and a shady pawnbroker opposite Martin Shaw's Gently and Lee Ingleby's Bacchus

Two new episodes of Inspector George Gently have just begun filming on location in the north east of England, with stars Martin Shaw and Lee Ingleby joined by some exciting guest stars.

Jim Moir (aka Vic Reeves) and Louise Brealey are to appear in one of two new feature-length episodes, the first of which sees the body of a man found under the Tyne Bridge following his friend’s 40th birthday party.

Brealey – best known as forensics expert Molly Hooper in BBC1’s Sherlock – crosses to the wrong side of the law to play the prime suspect in the case, with Reeves appearing as a shady pawnbroker. The episode’s cast also includes Emma Cunliffe, Anthony Flanagan, Adrian Bower and Paul Brennen.

The second film sees Jody Latham (Shamless) playing skinhead maniac Jonjo Burdon as an armed bank robbery takes place on Christmas Eve. Rachel (Lisa Mcgrillis) goes under cover to join the skinhead gang in Gently’s race against time to catch them before more people are killed.

Series eight of Inspector George Gently will air on BBC1 in 2015.
