Louis Walsh says Alesha Dixon or Mel B will be new X Factor judge

The veteran talent show host is yet to be confirmed as a judge himself, but says one of these two singers will join Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole on the programme

The X Factor 2014 will see either Alesha Dixon or Mel B on the panel, or so says long-standing judge Louis Walsh.

“It’s between Mel B and Alesha. She’s brilliant isn’t she? Watch this space,” he tells the Mirror.

Walsh is yet to be confirmed as a judge himself. It seems he could be just a scribble away from his eleventh series though, with the Sun reporting he’s simply waiting to sign a contract.

But it’s not until that tweet from Simon Cowell comes along – it’s how he announced Cole’s return – that we’ll know it’s the truth.

But back to the ladies. Cole has said from the start she’d like another woman on the panel and both Alesha and Mel B have experience of working on these shows. Former Spice Girl Mel B is currently on the panel of America’s Got Talent having been a full-time judge on Australia’s X Factor show. Singer Alesha meanwhile sits alongside Cowell on Britain’s Got Talent, her third appearance with him.

Both have been questioned several times on whether they’d join the singing contest. Alesha told chat show host Alan Carr she hasn’t “given it much thought”, while Mel B is reported to have said on Australian radio of the show, “British X Factor, who wouldn’t want to do that?”

The in-room auditions start around the beginning of June, so the full panel will be in place by then. But will it be Alesha or Mel B? As Walsh says, watch this space…
