Mark Gatiss lands Christmas Day treble on BBC2

And Sacha Dhawan will appear in both The Tractate Middoth - Gatiss's adaptation of the MR James ghost story - and a Christmas Day repeat of An Adventure in Space and Time

MR James ghost story The Tractate Middoth, along with a documentary about the author and a second showing of Doctor Who drama An Adventure in Space and Time, will make it a Christmas Day treble for writer Mark Gatiss – and a double for actor Sacha Dhawan.

Gatiss’s adaptation of James’s spine-tingling tale will air on BBC2 at 9:30pm on Christmas Day, followed at 10:05pm by MR James: Ghost Writer, a documentary about the revered master of discomfiture, which Gatiss will front. Earlier in the day, at 4:30pm, the channel will repeat Gatiss’s dramatisation of the birth of Doctor Who which was originally broadcast on 21 November in the week of the sci-fi show’s 50th anniversary.

Dhawan, meanwhile, appears in central roles in both dramas. In The Tractate Middoth, he plays a young library assistant drawn into the supernatural world surrounding an obscure Hebrew text, while in An Adventure in Space and Time he stars as Warris Hussein, director of the first ever episode of Doctor Who.
