David Tennant spars with Emily Watson in new trailer for The Politician’s Husband

The three-part BBC2 drama starring the Doctor Who actor as rising politician Aiden Hoyne begins on Thursday 25 April

Female political powerhouses have dominated our news over the past week following the death of Margaret Thatcher, so what better time for a new BBC2 drama about a highly ambitious woman?

Doctor Who’s David Tennant and Emily Watson (War Horse) star as Aiden and Freya Hoynes in upcoming drama The Politician’s Husband, written by Paula Milne – the woman behind 1995’s Bafta and Emmy Award-winning The Politician’s Wife.

The drama follows Aiden – a politician who always puts his career ahead of his family – after his bid for leadership fails and his marriage suffers as a result. Meanwhile his wife, Freya, has political aspirations of her own and launches a separate career that threatens to overshadow that of her spouse.

The new trailer for the three-part series – which begins on Thursday 25 April – features plenty of snide remarks and exasperated bickering between the pair as they struggle to deal with the ramifications of their careers in the public eye. Take a look below…
