A new contestant on University Challenge caused quite the kerfuffle on social media on Monday – because he shares an unusual surname with a well-known Hogwarts professor.
Jack Snape, a Masters student at the Courtauld Institute of Art, made his first appearance on the show last night and, while Jeremy Paxman neglected to reference his namesake, keen Harry Potter fans on Twitter were not about to let this one slip by.

i'm gonna be really annoyed if Snape answers a question and Paxman doesn't say 10 points to Slytherin #universitychallenge

If my surname was Snape I'd make it my mission in life to become a professor #UniversityChallenge

He may even get a date out of it:
I'd love to be called Mrs Snape!! ????????

Considering his current path, it’s possible the student really could become “professor” Snape in the future. We live in hope.
