Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville, Maggie Smith and Michelle Dockery currently filming in Oxfordshire

Shooting for the fifth series is well under way in Britain's Bampton Village

Dame Maggie Smith is back in period costume as the formidable Violet Crawley, the Countess of Grantham, and was seen alongside Penelope Wilton playing Isobel Crawly, in Bampton Village this week.

The two were spotted chatting while walking through a churchyard, perhaps filming a scene where they were visiting Matthew’s grave. Smith was wearing a deep purple coat, skirt and matching bag.

Meanwhile, in other parts of the county, Raquel Cassidy was playing Baxter alongside Rob James-Collier, as Thomas Barrow. Michelle Dockery was seen as Lady Mary Crawley in mauve and a dark blue hat wandering along with her brother in law Tom Branson, played by Allen Leech, and her father Robert Crawley, played by Hugh Bonneville. The threesome were walking with Lord Grantham’s Labrador dog.

Series five will have a few new actors in tow, including Richard E Grant (Girls, Doctor Who) as art historian Simon Bricker, a guest at the Crawley house who is expected to stir up some drama. Rade Serbedzija (Red Widow) and Anna Chancellor (The Hour, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) will also join the show.

Downton Abbey season five is expected to air in September 2014.
