Surprise, surprise – Cilla Battersby-Brown is back on Coronation Street. But what’s the reason for her wrist being in plaster?
In scenes to be shown on Wednesday 22 October, loudmouth Cilla (Wendi Peters) will turn up and interrupt a meal that Fiz and Tyrone have arranged for Roy, Chesney and Sinead. Her arrival leaves everyone stunned, especially when is turns out that she has both an overnight bag and a mysterious injury. Just how will Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) and Chesney (Sam Aston) react?
Actress Wendi Peters – who is back for a six-week guest stint – said recently of he return: “I’m really thrilled to have the opportunity to revisit Cilla and the cobbles for a short while and to see what she has been up to for the last seven years.”
The soap’s producer Stuart Blackburn added: “We can’t wait to see Cilla back on the cobbles. She’s a truly unforgettable character who is at the heart of Corrie’s rich history.”
Cilla originally exited back in October 2007 after inheriting a £45,000 necklace from a pensioner who died while in her care. During her original time in Weatherfield, Cilla was involved in a number of comedy exploits with partner Les Battersby, most notably when a bathtub fell through the floor of their house thanks to the weight of Great Dane Schmeichel.
Her new storyline will help facilitate Jennie McAlpine’s maternity leave when she leaves the show in the autumn to have her first baby.
