Filming has taken place for the funeral of Lucy Beale, who will be killed off during scenes to be shown on Good Friday.
Cast members including Nitin Ganatra (Masood Ahmed), Rakhee Thakrar (Shabnam Masood) and Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale) were joined by returnee John Partridge (Christian Clarke), who hasn’t been seen on the BBC1 soap since November 2012.
In the images released by the BBC, actor Ben Hardy can be seen rehearsing scenes in which his character Peter Beale is consoled by Jacqueline Jossa’s Lauren Branning.
Lucy’s send-off will be screened in May as the Beale family tries to come to terms with her untimely demise. Speaking about the plotline, executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins recently promised that it would “shock, entertain and make the nation weep”. The whodunnit is set to last from Easter until EastEnders’s 30th anniversary in February 2015.
Speaking about her exit, Hetti Bywater – who has played Lucy since 2012 – said that she had known that Lucy was to be murdered five months prior to the announcement:
“It felt like as soon as I knew suddenly everyone was coming up to me and asking me what my storylines were and where our characters would be in a couple of years’ time,” said the actress. “I had to make up things in my head! It was hard. The hardest person to keep it from was Jacqueline [Jossa] as we always talk about what we’re going to do in the future.”
