Doctor Who picked up two prizes at this year’s National Television Awards – best Drama and best Drama Performance for its star Matt Smith.
Smith couldn’t be at the ceremony – he was on stage elsewhere, the star of the show once more in West End musical American Psycho – so his Tardis companion Jenna Coleman and Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat accepted it for him.
But Smith was keen to get a message to those who had supported him in the viewer-voted awards – so he shot it on a phone, backstage at the theatre, right before his performance.
“Thank you to everyone who voted,” said Smith. “You made my time on Who the best and the most brilliant and the most audacious part of my career to date. So thank you, I am forever grateful.”
