“I felt I was going to be more scared than I actually was,” says Jacqueline Jossa, regarding a dramatic stunt on EastEnders that will see Lauren Branning make an escape from an upstairs window after Tanya locks her in the house. “I watched the stunt woman perform it and then I had a go. I felt really comfortable but I was a bit worried about Jake not catching me at the bottom.”
In scenes to be shown in tonight’s episode (BBC1, 7.30pm), Tanya (Jo Joyner) goes to check on Lauren and his horrified to find that her determined daughter has taken matters into her own hands. The bedroom window is open and Lauren is attempting to shin down the side of the house, such is her desperation to get hold of another drink.
Lauren then struggles and slips but, hearing the commotion, Max (Jake Wood) hares over and helps her to safety. Tanya rushes out of the house but Lauren runs off before she and Max can stop her.
“It took a while to perform the stunt as it needed planning. I was in the harness a lot longer than I thought I would be,” says Jossa. “However, it was really exciting. I felt great afterwards, but it did take a lot of energy to do and my arms were aching the next day. I enjoyed the whole process and would love to take part in another stunt.”
Of her current plotline, which has seen Lauren become increasingly dependent on alcohol to the horror of her parents, the actress adds, “I’m extremely privileged to be a part of this storyline and feel that it’s important to highlight the issues that surround young people.”
