EastEnders: what is Derek’s criminal secret?

Will Derek's past affect his future in Walford?

Minute Mart employee Derek Harkinson received a shock in tonight’s EastEnders when boss Yolande Trueman turned up to reveal that he’d failed to declare a criminal record.

The development came as a blow to Derek, who could find his job in jeopardy as a result of the investigation. But what is it that he’s been hiding?

Long-time fans will no doubt remember that Derek did once take the rap for Martin when he was caught growing cannabis and was therefore unable to get a booze licence for a community centre bash, so could Yolande be referring to this?

Well, it seems that fans of the BBC1 soap won’t have long to wait to get answers: Tuesday’s episode sees an on-edge Derek receive further upsetting news after an altercation in the shop with Keegan.

Johnny Carter – who witnesses the altercation but fails to act – then tracks Derek down to make things up with him and to try and find out what’s really going on.

But it seems that the heart to heart will result in Derek packing his bags and making plans to leave Walford altogether. Johnny then enlists Patrick help in trying to convince Derek to stay – but will they be successful?
