You might notice a familiar face in the background at the hospital in Hollyoaks next week as Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing makes a cameo appearance on the soap.
Filming at the show’s Liverpool studios for his All4 series In Bed With Jamie, the reality show favourite dons the scrubs to play a doctor in scenes focusing on the Nightingale family. But he’s not following in the footsteps of pop stars like Duncan James and Rachel Adedeji who’ve crossed over from one area of showbiz to tackle soap acting – Jamie’s is a strictly non-speaking role.
Discussing his experience, which can be seen on E4 next Thursday 18 May at 7pm, Laing said: “Even though I didn’t have any lines it was challenging! The set was huge as is the production behind it, I never realised the show was such a big operation.”
Laing says the actors welcomed him, but cheeky Lysette Anthony (Marnie Nightingale) did have some fun at his expense…
“As we started filming the scene that I was in, Lysette played a seriously good prank! I didn’t know what to do – to be fair she got me good!” (a video of the prank will be released on Hollyoaks’ official social platforms next week)
Luckily not all the cast were pranking him and there was a friendly face among the ensemble to keep Laing’s nerves at bay, as he reveals: “My friend Sophie Porley plays Ellie Nightingale, she’s my favourite character.
“If I had to create a speaking role for myself, it would be as a mysterious stranger who came to the village and became a hero by saving Ellie from being hit by a car!”
Let’s see if Hollyoaks producers take note of Laing’s suggestion and give him some lines next time…
Hollyoaks continues weeknights on E4 at 7pm and on Channel 4 at 6.30pm.
