Caz Hammond’s fixation with Maria Connor on Coronation Street looks set to get even more sinister over the coming months.
Corrie star Rhea Bailey spoke to RadioTimes.com on the red carpet at the Inside Soap Awards and promised viewers that matters will get a whole lot worse:
“However bad you think it’s going to get, just times it by ten. I’ve even asked, ‘are we allowed to do this because you do know this show is on before the watershed, right?’ It’s definitely going to get quite dark.”
Fans have already seen Caz become increasingly obsessed with Maria after scheming her way back into her flat by staging a robbery. Maria does now seem have realised that Caz is infatuated with her – but it seems that she’s not out of danger just yet.
“We all know Caz is completely unhinged,” laughed Bailey, “and I’m completely with the audience. I’m screaming at the TV telling Maria to run to safety. It’s all very nailbiting and you should be worried about what Caz is capable of.”
The actress was keen though to clear up one point of contention for viewers: Caz had nothing to do with the recent death of lovable dog Ozzy!
“Everyone thought Caz poisoned the dog and it really wasn’t her. Honestly, the dog had cancer – it was nothing to do with Caz.”
As for how long Caz will be wreaking havoc in Weatherfield, Bailey had this to say: “It’s just such an amazing show to work on that you’re always grateful for whatever they want to give you.
“Unless something hideous was to happen to Caz, I’m happy to stay for as long as they want to write for me.”
