Laurel and Ashley Thomas have an addition to their family, thanks to the arrival of their newborn daughter in tonight’s Emmerdale.
Scenes just broadcast on the ITV soap saw Ashley deliver the baby after his wife went into labour at home.
Following a home birth, the pair’s minds turned to naming their little girl. Laurel wondered whether she should have the name of Ashley’s mother Dorothy.
But after Ashley countered that it sounded a little old fashioned, they instead opted for Dotty.
So, welcome to the world Dotty Thomas – a new sister for Arthur and Gabby, who were both overjoyed at meeting their sibling.
The episode provided a rare moment of contentment and happiness for the Thomases, who are currently coping with Ashley’s diagnosis of early-onset vascular dementia.
Actor John Middleton recently revealed that viewers should expect some surprises in the run-up to his Emmerdale exit:
“I’m having the time of my life, but it’s the end of Ashley’s life, so it has that sting in the tale of it. I’m really enjoying the scenes and the some of the things we have coming up are going to be great.
“I know there is a twist in the story and our producer Iain MacLeod has filled me in on all the details leading up to Ashley’s death. I know when it’s going to happen, so I’m excited, but it’s also tinged with huge sadness.”
