Max Branning returns to EastEnders

…and then leaves again!

Max Branning made a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance in the closing seconds of this evening’s episode of EastEnders.

Actor Jake Wood hasn’t been seen on the BBC1 soap since October 2015 when Max was wrongly jailed for Lucy Beale’s murder.

But tonight’s cliffhanger saw Max make a brief, non-speaking return to the Square after his conviction was quashed in the wake of real killer Bobby confessing to the crime.

In the run-up to Max’s release, daughters Lauren and Abi were seen writing a letter to their dad, explaining that they’d be waiting in the Vic for him.

But Max merely ended up posting the letter back through the door of their home before fleeing the scene in a taxi.

Viewers will now have to wait to see whether Max will get his own back on Lauren and the Beales, what with their conspiracy of silence having led to his incarceration.

Speaking recently about what he’d like to see Max do once he makes a full-time return, actor Jake Wood said: “Hopefully Max will create some havoc. I’d like to see him go after Ian for setting him up.Hopefully he’ll come out of jail looking for revenge.”
