EastEnders: will Mick and Linda split up when Kellie Bright takes maternity leave?

Kellie Bright admits she's at the mercy of the writers, while Danny Dyer finds the prospect too emotional

When news broke earlier this month that Kellie Bright was pregnant, EastEnders fans were obviously delighted for the Walford star.

But thoughts quickly turned to the fate of the Carter clan – will Bright’s maternity leave mean that Mick and Linda are going to split up?

“I hope not,” Bright told RadioTimes.com on the red carpet at last night’s British Soap Awards. “But I’m at the mercy of the writers and a new boss. So who knows? I can’t yet reveal when I’ll be back, but I won’t be gone for long. So Mick will be fine.”

Bright – who has a four-year-old son Freddie with actor husband Paul Stocker – also spoke about how she’s coping with being pregnant while still working on the BBC1 soap:

“Last time around, I wasn’t working full time. I didn’t have a child already, so I wasn’t as busy. I’ve definitely felt more tired this time around. And when I go on maternity leave, I know that it won’t be a break. It’ll just mean that I won’t be at work. But I will have a new baby, so all is good.”

Co-star Danny Dyer had this to say about his screen wife’s baby news: “We’re all delighted about it. As for her going, I can’t talk about it. It’s too emotional. But, as Kellie says, she’s not going for long. And I’ll have Luisa Bradshaw White [Mick’s aunt Tina] for support. I’ll still have my Lu-Lu!”

The British Soap Awards are on ITV tonight at 8pm.
