It’s a Beale reunion in the new issue of Radio Times (out Saturday 28 November) as we catch up with Walford’s iconic family 30 years after they made their debut.
Adam Woodyatt (Ian) and Gillian Tayforth (Kathy), who both featured in that original cast quartet, are now joined by Laurie Brett (Jane) and Eliot Carrington (Bobby) as the latest generation of Beales mark a high profile year in Albert Square.
The last 12 months have, of course, been massive for Ian’s nearest and dearest with Bobby unmasked as Lucy’s killer, Jane admitting that she covered up the crime and Kathy returning from the dead after a decade believed to be deceased.
Now, in the new issue of RT, Woodyatt reveals that the biggest risk to the safety of the Square’s residents comes not from Bobby, but from the set itself.
“I’m a miracle it’s still standing,” he says. “If the wind gets up over a certain speed, we have to stop filming. On one occasion, I remember walking out onto the lot and a bit of the bridge on George Street just blew off.”
