Landlady Liz McDonald is to call time on her relationship with brewery man Dan after discovering all about his shady history.
“Leanne tells Liz about Dan’s secret past as one of her clients,” reveals Beverley Callard. “Liz is stunned. She can’t believe what she’s hearing and she doesn’t know what to think. He’s definitely not the man she thought he was and to hear that he has a violent past is frightening. She’s been through that with Jim in the past and it’s not something she wishes to revisit.”
The revelation that Dan once beat Leanne up during her time as a prostitute will result in a ferocious showdown during scenes to be shown on Friday 17 July. Liz storms round to see Dan, who is enjoying a celebratory drink after a meeting. And – in front of his boss and daughter – proceeds to recount everything that Leanne has told her.
“Liz is definitely furious and feels that she has to do something immediately,” says the actress. “She doesn’t care that his daughter is there – she wants everyone to know just what sort of bloke Dan is. After losing Tony, Deirdre’s death, plus everything she has gone through with Steve, Liz just sees red. She tells Dan that she never wants to see him again and she means it. She doesn’t need this type of complication in her life.”
But surely Liz should just be steering clear of fellas for the foreseeable future? After all, every man she has a relationship with seems to end up either unstable or unfaithful. So should she be single? “Ha ha – you’d like to think so, wouldn’t you? But Liz has always had a man – she doesn’t really like being single. So I’m sure it won’t be long before someone else turns her head.
“And I don’t think Liz is quite ready for The One O’clock Club yet, do you? She needs to spend a bit more time with Erica having long lunches and shopping!”
