The sale of Home Farm in an upcoming episode of Emmerdale is going to bring with it a surprise return…Robert Sugden – now accompanied by new fiancé Chrissie.
Scenes to be broadcast on Thursday 23 October will see Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) busy sorting the Home Farm Open Day to attract potential purchasers when Chrissie (Louise Marwood) arrives to look around. Nicola is immediately suspicious and – suspecting that Chrissie has only come for the free booze – promptly insults her. Chrissie is rude back and seems determined to look around.
All of which makes Nicola determined to teach this woman a lesson and play her a bit. She begs Katie (Sammy Winward) and Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) to pretend to be rich in order to put Chrissie off the house. But Andy and Katie are soon left red faced and shocked when Chrissie’s fiancé Robert Sugden (now played by Ryan Hawley) shows up…
Robert and his adoptive brother Andy have been at loggerheads ever since the pair went to war over the affections of Katie. Long-time viewers will recall that, back in 2004, Katie – who was dating Andy at that time – began an affair with his adoptive brother Robert (then played by Karl Davies). Katie did go on to marry Andy, but when the truth was finally revealed, he tried to shoot Robert and ended up hitting Jack instead.
Now, old rivalries look set to be reawakened just as Andy and Katie have rekindled their love and are set to marry. Kate Oates, Emmerdale’s series producer, said of the upcoming storyline:
“I’m delighted to welcome Ryan to the show. Robert is a complex character and when we were looking for someone to take over the role, Ryan had the perfect balance of charm and edge. Robert Sugden’s life has moved on in many ways… but those ingrained feelings – about his father, Andy, Katie, and the village where he grew up – are sure to find an explosive outlet.”
