Will Alfie (Shane Richie) tell Kat (Jessie Wallace) the truth about how the fire at No 23 Albert Square started? It’s the question that will be on the lips of EastEnders fans tonight as the beleaguered arsonist comes face to face with his injured partner.
Tuesday’s episode of the BBC1 soap saw Alfie resort to desperate measures to solve his financial problems when he started a blaze at the family home, little knowing that Kat was still upstairs at the time. After finally realising that Kat was inside the burning building, Alfie staged a daring rescue attempt only to discover later at the hospital that the love of his life had suffered burns to both her face and legs.
Now the family – including Stacey (Lacey Turner) and Mo (Laila Morse) – will be seen coming to terms with the devastating consequences of the fire. A guilty Alfie goes to visit Kat in hospital, but will he able to own up to what happened?
Speaking recently to ITV This Morning about the plotline, actor Shane Richie said: “Without giving too much away, it really is life changing for Jessie’s character. And for her to play the storyline we’ve got coming up after this event is brilliant for an actress.
“It’ll be such a departure from the Kat we know now – the tart with the heart and the heavy make-up. She will become the complete opposite to that and it’s heartbreaking. What happens leads up to Christmas and, of course, the 30th anniversary in February next year.”
