Actor Matt Bardock is to exit BBC1’s Casualty after more than seven years’ service as paramedic Jeff Collier.
Jeff – who was first seen on screen in February 2007 – has had an eventful time on the series, having married colleague Dixie in order to keep her dying dad happy, suffered with PTSD after attending the massacre at Holby College and being recently trapped behind bars during the Holby prison riots.
Executive producer Oliver Kent said today of Jeff’s upcoming departure: “Matt Bardock has given us one of Casualty’s all-time favourite characters and we are sad to see him go. Jeff Collier has been an iconic action hero for seven years and we have been so lucky to have had him on our team for so long. We wish him all the very best for the future.”
Writing today on Twitter, Bardock – whose pre-Casualty credits included A Touch of Frost and Prime Suspect – said that he was overwhelmed by the reaction of fans:
overwhelmed with the lovely comments.Thank you all so much for the love and support for jeff. It was a real gas for seven years. Xx
Despite Jeff’s time in the ambulance bay coming to an end, he is set to be part of an upcoming storyline that will see him attract the attention of the flirtatious Samantha (played by former Coronation Street and EastEnders actress Michelle Collins).
