Dave Myers: “I wasn’t blooming asked” on the Strictly Come Dancing live tour

The Hairy Biker tells RadioTimes.com he’s "dismayed" not to have been asked to dance in the tour, which is currently showing around the UK

Hairy Biker Dave Myers, one of the stars of Strictly Come Dancing 2013, says he is “dismayed” at not being asked to join the live Strictly tour after the series.

“I wasn’t blooming asked!” said the TV cook, who, regardless of his disappointment, went along to the show in Manchester last weekend and sat in the audience to cheer on his former co-stars.

Myers danced with professional Karen Hauer in the recent Strictly series, until they were voted off in week seven, the sixth couple to leave the competition.

In Strictly Come Dancing Live Hauer will be dancing with Nicky Byrne, “the man from Westlife she was dancing with [in 2012],” said Myers. “I suspected they wanted someone young and good-looking who could dance,” he joked.

Myers still speaks fondly of his time on Strictly: “I loved it!”

“Everyone goes on about the ‘Strictly family’. There wasn’t a sense of competition,” explained Myers, “Well, certainly by week seven when I left it hadn’t kicked in, if it did kick in. You’re competing against yourself. It was lovely to be part of.”

The biker misses his co-celebs on the show. “It was lovely to see Vanessa again at the Radio Times Cover Party [last week],” said Myers, “and it’s great watching Sophie Ellis Bextor, when she’s being interviewed on telly.

“Everyone on Strictly was on [the series] because they wanted to be. It wasn’t because their careers were flagging, it certainly wasn’t for the money, it was because everybody was very excited to be asked.”

For now Dave Myers will be taking a rest from reality TV. “I think I’m alright now,” he said. But his new culinary travel show with Si King – Hairy Bikers’ Asian Adventure – airs at 8pm, 13 February on BBC2.
