You might recognise her from KGB drama The Americans, but Keri Russell is playing an altogether different character in new film Austenland.
Gone are the guns, secret conversations and elaborate lies (although admittedly the wigs and disguises are staying put) as Keri Russell plays Austen super-fan Janey. A long way away from hard-nosed spy Elizabeth Jennings, Janey is a directionless 30-something with an unhealthy obsession with Mr Darcy. She’s memorised Pride and Prejudice and she’d rather watch Colin Firth dripping in lake water than have a real boyfriend, so with her friends and family despairing, she heads off to “the world’s only immersive Austen experience” to find her very own Mr Darcy.
Austenland is based on the novel of the same name by Shannon Hale. The film is directed by Jerusha Hess and also stars Northanger Abbey’s JJ Feild, Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie, Jane Seymour and Jennifer Coolidge.
