Holby City’s Tina Hobley is to bow out of the BBC1 medical drama after more than 12 years playing ward sister Chrissie Williams.
Hobley, 41, today said of her departure: “”Being a part of the Holby family for the last 12 years has been an experience I will treasure forever but it’s time to explore some new challenges. I have loved playing Chrissie Williams but I’m also looking forward to getting my teeth in to some other characters and new roles.”
Oliver Kent, executive producer, added: “As Chrissie Williams, Tina Hobley has been a leading light at Holby City for over a decade and we will be very sorry to see her go. It has been a joy and privilege to work with her and she has been massively popular with the audience. We wish her all the very best for the future.”
During her time in post, Chrissie has suffered no end of personal trauma – she lost husband Owen to registrar Diane, confronted crossbow-wielding sexual health nurse Tim, and was even held hostage in 2008 by ‘slasher’ cardiothoracic consultant Stuart McElroy. More recently though, she has found a certain amount of stability with surgical registrar Sacha Levy, the father of her son Daniel.
Tina Hobley first appeared on Holby City during its third series in 2001. She arrived on the show following stints on the BBC1 drama Harbour Lights, in which she starred with Nick Berry, and ITV’s Coronation Street, where she played barmaid Samantha Failsworth between 1996 and 1998.
