Simon Cowell to produce Pudsey: The Movie

It's a dog's life - and the Britain's Got Talent-winning pooch and his owner Ashleigh will star in a film about it

First there was Lassie in, well, Lassie, then there was Uggie in The Artist, and now it looks like 2012 Britain’s Got Talent winner Pudsey is to join the canine elite in a movie about his life.

Pudsey and his owner Ashleigh Butler are to take the lead (no pun intended) in a feature film produced by Simon Cowell, according to Screen Daily.

The family film is currently slated for a Christmas 2013 release and will be made as a co-production between Cowell’s Syco Entertainment and Vertigo films.

Both have something of a pedigree when it comes to Britain’s Got Talent stars. Vertigo cast George Sampson and Diversity in StreetDance 3D while Cowell produced Morgan Spurlock’s upcoming One Direction documentary and a biopic of tenor Paul Potts, starring James Corden.

Vertigo’s Rupert Preston said the Pudsey movie would be “great, feel-good, fun entertainment for all the family”.

Pudsey’s manager Jonathan Shalit added: “The British people love Pudsey. He has met the Queen and was invited to 10 Downing Street by the Prime Minister. This represents a hugely exciting next step.”
