The X Factor 2012 rumour mill: is Christopher leading the vote?

Has Britain no taste whatsoever? Surely Chris Maloney isn't beating Ella and Jahmene?

THE RUMOUR: Tear-soaked, vibrating Scouse cheeseball Christopher Maloney is, surprisingly, the most popular contestant in this year’s competition. Leaked voting records are said to show that in week one, Maloney not only won the public vote to decide which rejected contestant should be reinstated as a wild card: he also won the main vote itself, outscoring enormous bookies’ favourite Ella Henderson by two votes to one. In week two Christopher bullied the competition into second place yet again, polling more than 10% more than Jahmene Douglas, his nearest rival.

QUOTE FROM A “SOURCE” WHO PROBABLY DOESN’T EXIST: “Liverpool has clearly come out in force to back their man because we’re not sure who else is. He’s not particularly liked backstage because he’s a diva and thinks he’s the star of the show. And let’s face it, he’s not that great when he gets out on stage either. Most people reckon his nerves are a complete act too because it’s funny how he’s shaking one minute and then suddenly he’s fine.” (Daily Star)

RADIOTIMES.COM TRUTH RATING: 2/5. It’s been persistently reported, Christopher certainly hasn’t ever been in the bottom two, and someone somewhere has to keep the X Factor voting records a secret until they’re read out on ITV2 after the grand final. Christopher also has a strong regional voting bloc behind him, and he’s got the Nan Ballad thing all to himself this year. But: really? He’s ahead of Ella, Jahmene and Union J? Say it ain’t so, Britain. Our toes’ll break if his singing makes them curl any more.
