Our Score
There isn't an original bone in its generic body, but this undistinguished reboot of the popular 1990s TV show has enough colourful adventure, upbeat action and genial thrills to satisfy its target audience. Five teenage misfits become superheroes when they stumble on a buried spaceship and discover they must save Earth from an ancient alien threat. It's enlivened by top-flight vocal turns from Bryan Cranston as their mentor Zordon and Bill Hader's jokey robot sidekick Alpha 5, and Elizabeth Banks clearly has a ball as camptastic villain Rita Repulsa. Director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) goes efficiently through the build-up before descending into a CGI jumble of epic urban destruction and relentless fights with rock monsters and a golden giant. Best in its quieter moments where the five bond through personal adversities and learn how to harness their powers, this is an enjoyable enough romp if expectation is dialled down.

A group of high-school students gifted with superpowers harness their abilities in order to save the world. Fantasy adventure, starring Elizabeth Banks, Bryan Cranston and Dacre Montgomery.
