EastEnders: Pam and Les bid an emotional farewell to beloved grandson Paul

Will they cling together in grief or break apart on the day of the funeral?

Paul Coker will be laid to rest next week in EastEnders after he was killed by homophobic thugs during a night out with boyfriend Ben Mitchell.

His death has had major repercussions for the loved ones he left behind including grandparents Pam and Les, owners of Coker & Sons Funeral Directors, who have been struggling to cope. During preparations for the funeral, Pam will break down when Les suggests she views Paul’s body.

Later in the week, on the day of the funeral, Les pours his heart out to Claudette and Patrick. He tells them he can’t get through to Pam and is finding it difficult to help her. Meanwhile, Pam opens up to her sister Mim, telling her that Les is treating her like one of his customers.

Mim sides with Les, suggesting that it would be good for Pam to see Paul one last time.

She agrees, and after an emotional goodbye from grandmother to grandson the funeral begins.

Afterwards, in the Vic, Les gives a matter of fact speech and Pam snaps, accusing him of being more business-like than upset. She leaves the pub and Les goes to find her, explaining that his apparent coldness is simply his way of coping with heartbreak.

Will Pam and Les unite in their grief or is it forcing them apart? And can they find a better way to get through it?
