EastEnders: Mark Fowler Jr is HERE! Actor Ned Porteous joins the cast as Michelle and Grant’s son

Tonight's cliffhanger saw Mark Jr make his Walford debut

Tonight’s episode of EastEnders ended on a whopper of a cliffhanger: Mark Fowler Jr has arrived in Walford, much to the surprise of his uncle Martin.

Yes, Mark – the son of Grant Mitchell and Michelle Fowler – has turned up in Albert Square, no doubt with big questions about the mysterious telephone call he recently received from Phil.

With Michelle having dismissed Phil’s message as the ramblings of an old drunk, news has yet to reach Mark’s ears that Grant is actually his dad. And, of course, Grant has no idea that Mark is his son!

But with secrets having a habit of being spilled in soapland, it’s surely only a matter of time before the truth comes out?

Speaking tonight, newcomer Ned Porteous said: “Being part of two iconic families and the longest kept secret in EastEnders history is beyond exciting! I’m honoured to be here and can’t wait for viewers to properly meet Mark Jr.”

A show insider added: “Mark Jr is coming to London in search of answers. But should he be careful what he wishes for? And will that dangerous Mitchell side come to the surface?”

The arrival of actor Porteous (whose sole TV credit is an episode of Holby City) will now hopefully end confusion about Mark’s identity, with some EastEnders fans left initially confused about whether Todd Carty’s Mark Fowler had actually risen from the dead.

However, as Sharon explained to Phil, Mark Jr is actually the result of Michelle and Grant’s 1995 one-night stand, his paternity having been kept a secret until now. With Phil now in possession of the full facts, It looks like there’ll be plenty of Mitchell/Fowler drama to come…
